In 2008, The New York Times was made available as an app for the iPhone and iPod Touch; as well as publishing an iPad app in 2010. The New York Times also has a mobile presence in the form of an app, mobile reader, and podcasts so readers can stay current with the news while on the go. The Times Reader is a digital version of The New York Times, created via a collaboration between the newspaper and Microsoft. The New York Times began producing podcasts in 2006. The newspaper also launched an app for Android smartphones, followed later by an app for Windows Phones. In December 2013, the newspaper announced that the Times Reader app would be discontinued as of January 6, 2014, urging readers of the app to instead begin using the subscription-only Today’s Paper app. Several of the Times’ podcasts were canceled in 2012.
