LocalNet is a provider of website hosting and internet access services. The company was founded in 1994 in Buffalo, New York and originally provided telecommunication and other consulting services to various other companies including Sun Microsystems and Eastman Kodak before shifting its focus to becoming an early provider of flat-rate internet access. LocalNet now provides equipment to local telephone companies to enable those companies to provide localized access.
LocalNet currently provides a variety of services. Website hosting is one offering, with packages starting at $9.95 per month for a plan with limited bandwidth and storage or $12.95 for an unlimited hosting plan. Web hosting plans are Linux based and include a user control panel, email accounts, the ability to register a domain name, and one-click installation of a number of service features. Dial-up internet service is available for $9.95 per month, including a personal website and multiple email accounts. High-speed DSL access is also offered for $19.95 per month which includes email virus protection services at no additional charge. A speed accelerator which aims to increase internet download and loading speeds by up to 3x the basic speed is available to add to your service for $3.00 per month.
LocalNet’s dial-up internet service is available with no commitment term; the same is true of the high-speed DSL internet. Hosting plans do have a minimum commitment of 1 year on basic hosting and 3 months minimum on unlimited hosting plans. All plans renew automatically and are billed on a monthly basis.
