Home Chef is a meal kit delivery service founded in June 2013 by Pat Vihtelic and headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. In 2017, the company also began selling its products via Walmart. As of May 2018, Home Chef is owned by the Kroger corporation and starting summer 2018 Home Chef kits are stocked in Kroger stores as well as being delivered weekly to mail subscribers. The weekly kits contain pre-portioned ingredients and recipes from the company’s rotating menu of 15 different dinner options, or from their weekly breakfast, lunch, smoothie, or fruit basket options. Home Chef delivers 3 million meals each month to its subscribers. Customers may choose which day is most convenient for their deliveries, and deliveries are available Tuesday-Thursday. When signing up the customer may enter how many people they are cooking for (2, 4, or 6 people) and how many meals per week they wish to make with Home Chef as well as any dietary needs such as low calorie or foods they wish to avoid, and whether they want meat, vegetable, or seafood-based meals. Pricing is based on these selections per serving, with dinner menus priced at $9.95 per serving per meal. 15-minute lunch selections are $7.99 per serving, smoothie kits and fruit baskets are both $4.95 per serving. Boxes are sent automatically on the chosen day until cancelled with the ability to skip a week or adjust the menu selections before a cutoff date based on the delivery day.
