The site was founded in 2007 by Andy Smith and Stephen Blankenship and originally called Gyminee before being renamed Daily Burn in 2009. IAC, InterActiveCorp, holding company holds a majority stake in Daily Burn as of 2010. Workout videos are led by master trainers and produced by Mason Bendewald who is also the director of the Beachbody P90x program. Daily Burn was named a top 100 website by PC Magazine in 2010 and its AppleTV app was a January App of the Week in 2010 according to the New York Times technology section. Current membership to Daily Burn is estimated at 2.5 million subscribers worldwide.

Standard membership at DailyBurn costs $19.95 per month for access to its library of various workout programs so the user can use which one or ones suit his or her needs, the subscription also includes access on any or all supported devices so the user can access when and where is most convenient. Access to the premium plan, which includes an archive of the DailyBurn 365 daily workouts, is $26.95 per month. Membership trials are offered free for 30 days but will automatically convert to a paid subscription if not cancelled.
