The Basics: How to Cancel Your Subscription to The New York Times

 

The venerable and respected New York Times has been a source of trustworthy news and highly respected reporting since 1851!  Sometimes it can take all day (or more) to get through the Sunday New York Times and prices have steadily increased over the years. If the papers are piling up unread or If you’ve switched the source of your daily news fix to online sources, this is how you can cancel your subscription to The New York Times with the least hassle:

  1. This is a fairly simple process and is well explained in the help section on their website. Click on “Help”, “Home Delivery”, “About Home Delivery” tabs of the New York Times
  2. Step number 6  (the last one) provides instructions on canceling your subscription.
  3. If you’re in the United States, call 1-800-NYTIMES (1-800-698-4637). If you’re outside of the United States, there is a link to click to find the customer care number that services your country.
  4. Once connected, follow the prompts and enter your 9 digit account number or phone number.
  5. Once you are connected with the operator, explain that you would like to cancel your subscription and ask for the amount of refund you can expect.
  6. Take note of the representative’s name and ask for a confirmation of the cancellation to print out and keep with your other important papers in the event that the request has fallen through the cracks.
